Ginger Tea Recipe

Ginger Tea or Adrak Chai is one of my all time favorite teas. The sharp delectable taste of ginger pairs great with a strong black tea. Not only that, ginger has lots of health benefits from aiding in digestion to helping reduce inflammation. This recipe is great for your morning or afternoon cup of tea, to warm you up on a cold day, or when you need a little pick me up (check out my recipe for Pepper Tea if you are in need of a little relief from a cold). This is a simple recipe that will quickly make you an 8 once cup and all you need is water, tea, milk, and sugar.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Water – 1/2 Cup
  • Whole Milk – 1/2 Cup
  • Sugar – 1 Teaspoon
  • Fresh Ginger – 1/2 to 1 inch long (peeled and grated)
  • Tea – 1 Teaspoon Black Tea

STEPS:

  • In a deep pan, mix together the water, milk and sugar over a medium flame.
  • When the mixture is hot, over 70°C or 158°F, add the fresh ginger to the mix (this will prevent the ginger from curdling the milk)
  • Just before the mixture comes to a boil add the loose leaf tea. The best tea to use for this recipe is a strong black loose leaf tea.
  • Let the mixture come to a full boil and keep the mixture on a rolling boil for two minutes.
  • Turn the heat off and let the tea steep from another 3 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse. For a stronger flavor increase your steeping time.
  • Filter the tea through a tea strainer into a cup and enjoy a hot cup of Adrak Chai!
