Ahh the Pepper Tea!
The sharp and spicy tea that will help clear your nasal passages when you are under the weather. My kids do not like this tea (“It’s too spicy Dad!”) but will want me to make it for them when they are not well. I, on the other hand, enjoy this tea even when I am feeling well especially on a cold day to warm me up. This simple recipe requires, water, tea, sugar and crushed peppercorn.
INGREDIENTS:
- Water – 1 Cup
- Crushed Peppercorn – 1 Teaspoon
- Sugar – 1.5 Teaspoon
- Fresh Ginger – 1 to 1.5 inch piece (peeled and grated)
- Tea – 1 Teaspoon Black Tea
STEPS:
- In a deep pan, mix together the water, ginger, crushed peppercorn, and sugar over a high heat.
- Just before the mixture comes to a boil add the loose leaf tea. The best tea to use for this recipe is a strong black loose leaf tea.
- Allow the mixture to boil for three minutes.
- Remove from heat and let the tea steep for another 3 minutes to infuse the flavors well. For a stronger flavor increase your steeping time.
- Filter the tea through a tea strainer into a cup and enjoy a hot cup of Pepper Chai!
